We are pleased to provide an update regarding the commencement of RAPID’s revolutionary STI testing project using GeneXpert technology, as announced by QPP in November 2016.
The research pilot, involving partners from QPP, the University of Queensland School of Public Health, Metro North HHS and funded by Metro North LINK innovation funding, will see RAPID offer point of care testing for chlamydia and gonorrhoea (the most common STIs in Queensland) with results delivered to clients within a couple of hours.
A soft launch of the project will commence in the first week of February by offering full rapid HIV and STI testing at three of Brisbane’s sex-on-premises venues, before expansion of the service to the main clinic in April 2017. RAPID’s outreach services to SOPVs are well received in the community and see large uptake by venue patrons, with regular feedback on the benefit of offering a safe and judgement-free testing environment. Full STI testing will be available to all venue patrons, including those living with HIV, in line with QPP’s commitment to wellness for the entire community affected by HIV.
Clients who undertake rapid STI testing with RAPID will be participating in a ground-breaking trial for Australia, using highly accurate diagnostic testing with seamless, possibly same-day linkage into care in the event of reactive results.
If you’d like more information on RAPID’s new STI testing options we’d love to hear from you!
