Everything you discuss with a RAPID Test Facilitator is confidential and the details of the conversation are not recorded. The exception to this is your results, if known, which will be kept in our secure GP Patient Management Software. If we discuss your treatment, we will also make a note of any service that we have supported you to link in with. RAPID’s HIV Home Testing Program does NOT link with My Health Record. RAPID staff are legally responsible to protect your confidentiality under the Commonwealth Privacy Act (2000), Public Health Act 2005 (Qld), and the Queensland Positive People (QPP) Privacy and Confidentiality Policy.

Follow up protocol(Required)

This is an HIV Home Testing program run by RAPID. RAPID is a free HIV and Sexually Transmissible Infection (STI) screening service operated by QPP and funded by Queensland Health. The doctor who authorises point of care testing at RAPID is Dr Andrew Redmond. Under his clinical governance, RAPID provides rapid STI testing for HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhoea in compliance with the Public Health Act 2005 (Qld) and the Health Insurance Act (1975).

If your Atomo HIV home test comes back showing no signs of HIV, the only follow up involves a RAPID staff member contacting you to undertake a post-test discussion and collect your results over the phone. If your test comes back reactive for HIV, we are required to arrange for you to undertake a second test to confirm HIV. This means you’ll need to attend a GP or sexual health clinic to provide a blood sample from your arm and the clinic you attend will send it to a laboratory for confirmation testing. It can take up to two weeks for the results to be confirmed, and during this time RAPID staff and Dr Redmond are available to assist you. In order to comply with legislation, your anonymous HIV pathology results will be handled in the following way:

1) HIV is a notifiable condition according to the Public Health Act 2005 (Qld). If you are diagnosed with HIV, we are legally obliged to complete a notification form for the Queensland Department of Health (this is done using a template supplied by the testing laboratory and completed by us using an anonymous code). 2) Any recommendations that Dr Redmond deems necessary will be communicated to you by your chosen preferred method.
