Thank you for visiting the QPP web order form for an HIV Self-Test (HIVST). HIVST is where an individual can test for HIV in the privacy of their own home, with results in 20 minutes.
In a collaboration between Queensland Positive People (QPP)’s RAPID Service, the University of Queensland School of Public Health (UQSPH) and Metro North Hospital and Health Service (MNHHS), QPP has successfully implemented an innovative service to improve access to HIV testing through a home-based HIV rapid self-testing pilot with a targeted investment focus on those living in regional, rural and remote areas of Queensland. Funding for this pilot was provided through the HIV Foundation Queensland.
HIVST is an emerging area of HIV diagnosis and prevention, and is a vital component of the Queensland Sexual Health Strategy 2016-2021 and HIV Action Plan. The Strategy identifies HIVST as an important part of the HIV response, but is particularly relevant to a State such as Queensland with a geographically dispersed population where regional health disparities exist in regards to access to HIV testing. During the pilot, we have identified a very low cost HIVST integrated model of care into a people living with HIV (PLHIV) organisation that offers newly diagnosed and case management services for PLHIV.
Currently, HIVST distribution can only occur under a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) approved trial until such time that a product is approved for home use on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). Our trial of discreet postal distribution has ceased, but the data analysis and research in the coming months will be contribute to the evidence regarding a proposed HIVST model of distribution in Queensland.
We are delighted that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has included the QPP HIVST Brochure in the international WHO HIVST Implementation Toolkit.
