DESCRIPTION:Join Us for the Brisbane Pride Rally and March 2026!\nWe are thrilled to announce that our community will be marching together in this year’s Brisbane Pride Rally and March on Saturday\, 24 October 2026. QPP will be proudly representing people living with HIV and their allies\, and we would love for you to join our group as we step out together to celebrate pride\, visibility\, and solidarity. \nWe will gather at 9:00 AM at the side of the RAPID building\, at 2 Winn Street\, Fortitude Valley. From there\, we will join the procession and make our way as a group to New Farm Park\, where the vibrant Brisbane Pride Fair Day festivities will be taking place. \nThe march covers a distance of approximately 2 kilometres over the undulating hills of New Farm. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing (with plenty of colour if that’s your vibe)\, as well as bringing a filled water bottle and sun protection to stay comfortable throughout the morning. \nWe want this event to be as inclusive and welcoming as possible. If you have any accessibility concerns or require support to participate comfortably in the march\, please reach out to the Queensland Council for LGBTI Health to discuss available options. We look forward to standing together and celebrating with you all! \nNo need to RSVP\, just meet us there\, but get in touch if you have any questions.

DESCRIPTION:World AIDS Day is Sunday\, December 1st this year. It starts with me. \n\n\n\nThere are numerous events and remembrance vigils throughout Queensland in the process of being planned. alongside our annual Buildings in Red project. All events will be listed on the Queensland World AIDS Day website www.qldworldaidsday.org.au \n\n\n\n\n\nRemembering and celebrating those we have lost from HIV/AIDS\, and showing support for all those who live with HIV starts with me.\nRaising awareness of HIV and today’s increased testing\, treatment and prevention options\, making sure community\, friends and family know how to stay free of HIV starts with me.\nShining a light on HIV stigma and discrimination\, and leading by example confronting ignorance\, dispelling myths and misinformation about HIV\, starts with me.\nWhile HIV still threatens the world today\, we must take bold action against inequality\, promote understanding and advocate for human and health rights. Change is more than a moment\, it’s a movement that starts with me.\n\n\nThis World AIDS Day remember to: Wear a Ribbon this December 1st\, attend an event or vigil near you if you can\, and have a conversation or share a story about World AIDS Day with others\, and what it means to you.

SUMMARY:HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:June 5th is HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day (HLTSAD). \nFirst observed in 2014\, it’s a day to honour long-term survivors of HIV and raise awareness about their needs\, issues\, and journeys. This years theme is ‘Leading with Legacy’.The selection of June 5 for this annual observance coincides with the anniversary of the first official reporting of what became known as the AIDS epidemic on 5 June 1981 by the CDC in the US. HIV Long-Term Survivors (HLTS) represent a diverse group of people\, including people diagnosed with HIV before the advent of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy or HAART in 1996. Often overlooked\, HLTS includes people born with HIV or who acquired the virus as babies and are now in their 30s and 40s. HLTS are also those living with HIV for over 25 years. \nWe join the world in recognising people living with HIV long term. This day is to commemorate and celebrate the lives\, courage\, and advocacy of those who pioneered the HIV response.  Those who have been living with the pandemic for forty years have paved the way for research\, medical advancements\, and policy change.  We respect and honour them\, knowing the impact on their lives has been significant.  \nFor events in your state or territory visit the NAPWHA page. \nTo we’d also encourage you to read our 2025 HIV Long Term Survivors Awareness Day Reflections contributed by community members to celebrate the day. \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n  \n\n
