Becoming a Member
Join QPP and help each other cope with the ups and downs of life with HIV!
QPP is a peer based organisation which represents all people living with HIV (PLHIV) throughout Queensland, and actively promotes self-determination and empowerment for all PLHIV. Anyone interested in staying informed about HIV can become an associate member, and PLHIV are ordinary members who are provided with constitutional privileges, such as voting.
People shouldn’t have to deal with HIV on their own. Many PLHIV face similar issues, so it makes sense to share these experiences. People get involved for different reasons:
- meeting other people with HIV
- talking to others who have also been recently diagnosed
- overcome feelings of isolation or stigma
- accessing advocacy support for HIV related issues
- engaging with peer support, including a range of social networks and events
- learning about the latest treatment information
- to receive the regular e-newsletter
- engage in an organised community that enables PLHIV to have meaningful involvement in program development, implementation and policy-making in Queensland’s HIV response
Opportunities to get involved
By joining Queensland Positive People, you’ve already shown your great support for PLHIV. For those who wish, there are plenty of opportunities across Australia for more active involvement. Join the volunteer program on a weekend, take part in a development project, enjoy a social activity, facilitate one or simply join in on the conversation on Facebook to actively promote our cause. Whatever you choose, you’ll enjoy fun and friendship with the chance to learn all about living with HIV. Our professional team welcomes member participation.
Members also enjoy the opportunity to participate in our regular HIV training programs and social activities.
Your membership is important
Members bring strength in numbers. Your support is part of a growing group of members, and proves that you care about our community. Every new member helps Queensland Positive People to further messages of information, advocacy and support for PLHIV.
Ordinary: Voting member with a confirmed HIV+ status FREE membership
Associate: Non-voting member with HIV status undisclosed FREE membership
To become an Ordinary member, your HIV+ status must be confirmed by a medical professional and you have to agree to be bound by the QPP constitution.
